Butterflies and moths look best with wings spread. You’ll need a spreading board, strips of paper, and plenty of pins.
- Relax the specimen fully first.
- Pin it through the thorax and set the body in the board’s groove.
- Lay paper strips over the wings and gently move the forewings forward until their back edges make a straight line across.
- Bring the hindwings up just under the forewings.
- Pin the strips down (never through the wings) and let it dry for about a week.
