Drugstore Beetle - Stegobium paniceum
The Drugstore Beetle is found throughout the United States and feeds on a variety of stored Plant foods. The common name in the USA could have come from the beetle infesting herbs that were used as medicine by early druggists. Around the world it is also known as the Biscuit Beetle or Bread Beetle but in the USA it is known as the Drugstore Beetle. Most of these specimens were collected from my kitchen pantry where they had infested a variety of stored flours and other grains. I have to dispose of most of the boxes of stored grains i.e. biscuit mixed, pancake mixes and similar products. The boxes I decided to keep I placed in our freezer for a week to kill any adults or larva.
